On our last Sunday before traveling to the USA, two babies were dedicated, and to our surprise, we were asked to serve as witnesses for Michelle.
We're accustomed in our home church to stand as a congregation and pledge as a church to serve as Christian examples and to help the parents in whatever way possible. I wonder if the two witness custom is somehow related to another tradition of naming God parents? We are not God parents - just witnesses who pledged to do everything possible to help Michelle's mom to raise the child in a Christian home.
